Overview:
The Collaborative Innovation Center of Mathematics (CICM) is a fundamental research center in the School of Mathematics and Statistics of Wuhan University (WHU). Established in July 2013 by Wuhan University, CICM positions itself as a center of excellence in Mathematics research addressing current and critical issues in pure math, applied math, computational math, and statistics.
CICM’s goal is to build a world-class mathematical center for research and fostering young talents; to bring up a new generation of leading mathematicians of world class in China; to promote the application of mathematics in sciences and industries; to take the research and education of mathematics to a higher level in Wuhan University.
Members at CICM are encouraged to carry out fundamental, frontier, critical, and multidisciplinary research with advanced mathematical approaches, thereby attract talents worldwide and train top tier research personnel, and support fundamental scientific development and technology innovation in China.
The primary task of the center is to bring together domestic and foreign talents to promote interdisciplinary integration, and to enhance innovation capability. The employment system of CICM will follow the principle of “open competition” and take the "open, dynamic, competitive and incentive" hiring mechanism.
The research innovation teams at CICM are led by their Principal Investigators (PI). Specifically, CICM supports the development and implementation of grand challenging projects in natural science and engineering where mathematics and statistics play a key role.
After the foundation and development stages, CICM aims to bring together a group of leading mathematicians and innovative research teams with domestic and international influence; to make some major progress in related mathematical areas; and to build a world-class research center.
Organization:
CICM has setup an academic committee, two research innovation teams (pure mathematics and applied mathematics, respectively) and one supporting administration team. The director of CICM is in charge of research and administration in the Center with the help of the two Principal Investigators of the two research teams. They are responsible for hiring and assessing eligible and outstanding talents to their innovation teams.
